The Mission
Create a dynamic redemptive centre where ordinary
people know and share God's Love.
AIMS AND BASIS
The Church has for its aims and basis the upholding of the teachings
of Jesus Christ, based on:
i. the faith and belief in God the Trinity;
ii. the faith and belief in the life and work of Jesus Christ and
his coming again to restore life everlasting;
iii. the faith and belief in the propagation of the teaching of
Jesus Christ, by witnessing thereto in
fulfillment of His commission
to His disciples as recorded in Matthew’s Gospel 28:19;
iv. the faith and belief in the partaking of the Holy Communion
ordained by our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Mission Tasks
1. Foster, nourish, and sustain authentic, living
relationships with God in Christ.
2. Build a caring community devoted to becoming
one human family in pursuit of
God's dream for us.
3. Promote personal growth so that with God's
leading, help, and grace, we will
more fully realise our God-given potential and purpose
for tomorrow than we
have today.
4. Embrace the highest standards, as individuals,
families, and a church, of love,
dedication, honesty, integrity, and service.
The History
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE TEMA JOINT CHURCH
The Joint Church Centre was built with funds donated by Protestant
Churches in West Germany,
and others, for the local ecumenical
movement. It was meant to support co-operation among
churches, to
facilitate the worship of the Triune God by workers and management,
and to support
Christian mission to workplaces.
Efforts to organize an inter-denominational Church service at the
Centre during the 1970s and 1980s,
however, proved futile.
In 1992, God in His own wisdom and direction, working through the
Tema Industrial Chaplaincy and
a determined group of Christians,
under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and with the desire for
shorter
Church services, planted the seed for the Joint Church
congregation.
The first service was held on Sunday, 2 August, 1992 at the Joint
Church Centre. Since then,
the congregation has increased
phenomenally. The Church expresses her faith through Sunday
services,
the life and work of the various Committees and the
Fraternities.
Most of the worshippers are workers, professional women and men, and
students.
From a very humble beginning in 1992, and with a membership of 27,
including children, the Joint Church
(as at the 1998 Annual General
Meeting) has over 800 members, including children.
The Industrial Chaplain doubles as the Resident Minister. He is
assisted by two Industrial Chaplains.
We are thankful to God that He has blessed the Tema community with a
United Church that is
worshipping Him and rendering selfless service
to the community.
